OUR STORY

The Holleger Kids (and grandkids)
Left to right: John, Beth, Dianne, Rachel, Julianna, Mary, and Paul

This is the story of our family – “The Holleger Kids”– Mary, Dianne, Paul, Beth and John. Our mother, Kathleen M. Holleger, homeschooled all five of us diligently and we were always a very close family, but in 2005, our Mom was diagnosed with a rare and very aggressive form of breast cancer – Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

This type of cancer is different from what most people associate with Breast Cancer. It doesn’t typically form a lump, like most people are used to checking for. It can resemble instead just a sore, red breast, much like a common and benign breast infection. It is often misdiagnosed at first, making treatment options harder and often too late once the diagnosis is finally made. Our Mom fought hard for two long years, and we all stepped up and helped take care of her. On December 23rd, 2007, Kathy Holleger passed away and went home to Heaven. Now, her children are fighting back.

Currently, we are working to secure official status as a non-profit organization recognized in Pennsylvania. Our goal is to raise awareness specifically about Inflammatory Breast Cancer by sharing our story with others. We want to help progress research, treatment and prevention by raising funds, educate others by providing resources and information, and we want our Mother’s legacy to live on. Because no one should have to go through what we saw our mom go through. Will you consider supporting us by making a Donation?
